Let Them Hear & Read God's Word, Too!

Image may contain: one or more peopleI have personally read through the Bible many times in my life – as you have likely done as well, however; I recently came across a verse which I'm sure I must have read before, but just truly "noticed" . . . .
Deuteronomy 31:13 - Their children must hear it read too. They don’t know this law yet. They too must learn to have respect for the Lord your God. They must honor him as long as you live in the land.
This verse is absolutely true - our grandchildren must hear about God from us, so they will know Him. They need to “meet” Him, so they will learn to have respect for God and honor Him. For this to truly happen, they must see we respect and honor Him.

One way we can do this is to read God's Word to them - Bible Adventure books are fine, but read from God's Word to them. Another way to do this is to watch for opportunities to connect God’s Word with the everyday lives of our grandchildren. For example, there was a time when one of my grandsons was having trouble going to sleep - he has quite an imagination. I prayed for and with him, asking God to fill his mind with peaceful, joyful thoughts, so he could rest and go to sleep. Within minutes he was asleep and he slept all night! The next morning he said he had slept really well and he had a joyful, happy spirit! We talked about how God answered our prayer and thanked Him for doing so. My grandson was so excited to see how God answered our prayer!

This is just one example, but no matter the age of our grandchildren, we need to be absolutely sure they hear about God, His Word, His great love for them, His amazing grace and how He answers prayer, so they will know Him. They absolutely need to see how we respect and honor God and experience both talking with God and seeing how He answers our prayers, because at the end of the day, we want them to grow to be people who know, respect and honor God.
